The Valemount and Area Recreation Development Association is a non-profit association, consisting of a range of local business and backcountry users. Our key goals are focused on community and public education to help backcountry use and improve the backcountry experience for all user groups. VARDA assists in managing a Sustainable Resource Management Plan (SRMP) for our area the covers territory from Horsey Creek to Blue River.
The SRMP was developed for:
- security of investments
- protection for public access to crown land
- and sustainability of growth for each outdoor recreational activity.
In addition, VARDA assists government in the management of the recreational snowmobiling sector in the Valemount area. We oversee grooming, manage trailhead staff and area maintenance. Much of our efforts are put towards rider education relating to ethical riding, wildlife sensitivities, safety and backcountry stewardship. As the association grows we will focus on further developing the other outdoor recreational activities that our valley has to offer.
Membership is key! As a membership driven non-profit, VARDA relies on participation and support from our members. Please sign up for a VARDA membership in the links above, ask you friends to do the same, and be proud to support a group that has your best interests in mind. There are many benefits associated with membership besides general support and you will find them under the membership section on this website.
Thank you for your interest in VARDA and Valemount.

We are dealing with spells of rain and spring time temperatures on the lower trails. Things can get a bit slushy down there and the valley bottom sections of trail are not holding up very well after our regular grooms, but once you gain elevation things are back to normal. Spring is a very...read more
Wow, winter is back in full force and the riding is exceptional. With another winter week in the forecast, there has not been a better time this season to get out and ride!read more
Unfortunately, we have not had any major changes in the weather or riding conditions in some time. No new snow has fallen over the last week and the frigid temps have remained in full force. There are hopes of fresh snow on the horizon although the precip does not looks to begin until Sunday afternoon. The lack of snow is causing some issues with the Allan Creek grooming program so please read full report under the the grooming schedule tab and make your decisions accordingly. Riders are urged to use caution as many hazards such as rocks,...read more
Just another very important heads up to those who may think of heading this way over the weekend. We will NOT BE OPENING the lower gate at Allen Creek this weekend. We know there is a very good chance that users will still try to drive up the road (which is no longer in shape for trucks) and we do not want our access destroyed by vehicle traffic. Sorry for the bad news, but please keep snow dancingread more

We are now located on 1020 Commercial drive, one building away from the Caribou Grill Restaurant. Turn left off of 5th avenue just before the Grill and you will see our new space. Stop in to say hi but it’s best to call first to make sure we are not out playing in the snow!...read more
