Welcome

The Valemount and Area Recreation Development Association is a non-profit association, consisting of a range of local business and backcountry users. Our key goals are focused on community and public education to help backcountry use and improve the backcountry experience for all user groups. VARDA assists in managing a Sustainable Resource Management Plan (SRMP) for our area the covers territory from Horsey Creek to Blue River.
The SRMP was developed for:

  • security of investments
  • protection for public access to crown land
  • and sustainability of growth for each outdoor recreational activity.

In addition, VARDA assists government in the management of the recreational snowmobiling sector in the Valemount area. We oversee grooming, manage trailhead staff and area maintenance. Much of our efforts are put towards rider education relating to ethical riding, wildlife sensitivities, safety and backcountry stewardship. As the association grows we will focus on further developing the other outdoor recreational activities that our valley has to offer.

Membership is key!  As a membership driven non-profit, VARDA relies on participation and support from our members.  Please sign up for a VARDA membership in the links above, ask you friends to do the same, and be proud to support a group that has your best interests in mind.  There are many benefits associated with membership besides general support and you will find them under the membership section on this website.

Thank you for your interest in VARDA and Valemount.

Promising Forecast

Posted by on Jan 8, 2018 in News

New snow is starting to fall out in the riding areas and the conditions are improving. Chappell has been hit the hardest so far with a reported 20cms of new snowfall and the highway camera out that way is looking great. Snow was reported to be falling in both Clemina and Allen riding areas on Sunday afternoon as riders were leaving. The upcoming forecast is the best one we have seen so far this season for potential snowfall. Fingers crossed the weather people are correct and we are in for a reload!

Come back winter and Clemina Creek FYI

Posted by on Dec 11, 2017 in News

Well…..after a great weekend of sun filled riding, we would have to agree that it is getting very difficult to find a fresh track in the popular areas without getting vertical. Forecast is showing a few clouds coming in later in the week and whatever amount of precipitation they bring, we need it. In these times we can see people venture slightly into the wildlife closures looking for a fresh track. This CANNOT HAPPEN. Please help us out with a bit of will power for yourself and by providing some peer pressure to others who may not fully...

Quick Update

Posted by on Dec 6, 2017 in News

Grooming has begun! All three main riding areas are in full grooming mode. Alpine snow levels are sitting good with a great base for this time of year. Fresh snow levels are down and the riding areas are showing it on the regular paths. Move off the goat paths and there is still some great snow out there, but you may have to get a bit dangly. The riding has been exceptional for early season. The warmer temps and sunshine forecasted for this week are not necessarily setting things up for a face shot, but you should still be able to get some...

Too early

Posted by on Oct 31, 2017 in News

While the snow is falling and a few brave folks have hammered their way up the rocks to the alpine, we are saying its still way to early head out to Valemount for ride.  Access is basically non-existent, but the good news is the alpine snow is building and we are getting a few flakes hitting the Valley bottom.  The forecast is looking good for some lower valley snow and we will continue to provide updates as we can.

VARDA Alpine Cleanup September 22 / 23

Posted by on Jul 26, 2017 in News

On Saturday, September 23rd VARDA will be hosting an alpine cleanup day in each of our three main riding areas (participation dependant) Three groups will head head out into the areas lead by VARDA representatives for a day of hiking around the accessible areas cleaning up anything we find. The areas will be initially accessed by ATVs although the ATV use will be extremely limited and the majority of the day will be spent hiking around on foot to protect our fragile alpine environments. Don’t worry, if you are not a hiker, we still need...

Winter is still on

Posted by on Mar 31, 2017 in News

So far, we have had quite an amazing spring. Riding conditions have been excellent in the alpine and there has been plenty of snow to be had. As of now, trail access is great with snow beginning directly from the staging areas with full cover on the trails. We are dealing with spells of rain and spring time temperatures on the lower trails. Things can get a bit slushy down there and the valley bottom sections of trail are not holding up very well after our regular grooms, but once you gain elevation things are back to normal. Spring is a very...
